The Sisters of Mercy´s 1980s success was defined by their influential gothic rock sound, critical acclaim on independent charts, and the commcercial triumph of their albums. Their success was built on a foundation of dark, atmospheric music, a unique visual aestetic and the persitent drive of frontman Andrew Eldritch which allowed them to transcend internal band conflicts and archieve a cult following and major label deals.
