"I whispered 'Hi' as you walked away..." The Orchids (not very) long-playing debut for Sarah Records featured eight exquisite three-minute pop miniatures on two sides of a 10" LP, and was almost a definition of perfection: two guitars, a bass, some drums, a splash of keyboard, and James Hackett's voice, an intimate whisper on A Place Called Home, soaring on the euphoric choruses of It's Only Obvious and The York Song, or raw and yearning on the sparse, acoustic Blue Light. "This could be for the rest of our lives..."
