Steve Reid Nova
Soul Jazz Records are issuing the debut 1976 album from the legendary Steve Reid in a new edition 1000 only TRANSPARENT RED coloured vinyl (+download code). As a radical jazz artist, Reid played with an extraordinary group of artists ' including Miles Davis, Sun Ra, Fela Kuti, James Brown, Ornette Coleman, Lester Bowie, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Dionne Warwick, Archie Shepp, Chief Bey, Olatunji, Arthur Blythe, Dextor Gordon, Gary Bartz, Sam Rivers, Leon Thomas, Lonnie Smith and Horace Silver! Reid began his career as a teenager in the 1960s as a drummer at Motown (aged 14). He played in the house band at Harlem's Apollo Theatre, accompanying James Brown, and in Sun Ra's Arkestra, and later started the independent record label, Mustevic Sound, to release his debut LP Nova. At the start of the 21st century, he began a successful collaboration with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). Reid died in 2010. A
