Los Ovnis Bailando Al Ritmo De Los Ovnis
Every era has a background music, an undisputed soundtrack. This is that of Andean migrants who arrive in Lima in the second half of the 20th century. In the 70s, rock bands from the city Andean city of Huancayo begin mixing cumbia and huayno using their electric guitars. This is how Andean tropical music is born and the band first to play this genre are Los Ovnis by Jorge Chambergo... No one in Los Ovnis would imagine that soon their music will be recognized nationally and heard in movie theaters from all over Peru... In their ranks, we find a young Julio Simeón, known as "Chapulín, El Dulce", vocalist and founder of Los Shapis... In 1982, Chambergo and his band record their first LP, which has as cover art a drawing of small UFOs attacking a larger Star Wars spacecraft. It is titled "Bailando con Los Ovnis" (Dancing with UFOs). The tracks are recorded in one day.In 1984, they get hired by the film company Grupo Chaski to musicalize 'Gregorio', a feature film about a child who travels from the Andes to the capital and experiences cultural shock while facing the hardest side of the city. This brings the band national and worldwide recognition. For Los Ovnis, a 43-year-old artistic career that is not over yet, begins with this LP that we rediscover today. We celebrate the founders of Andean tropical music by listening to their first album remastered, a magnum opus that, like all classics, has managed to endure in the history of Peruvian music.
