Bach and jazz - this connection has existed for more than 60 years and is no longer new - but can always be rediscovered. And with About Bach, the latest LP release from the Black Forest Sounds vinyl edition is another musical and sonic treat for music lovers, recorded by Johannes Mössinger in the Ensemblehaus of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra on a Steinway D grand piano.Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is indisputably one of the most important composers of all time. His music appeals to many musicians, but especially to jazz musicians. At the latest since the Frenchman Jacques Loussier established the crossing of boundaries between two musical worlds with Play Bach at the end of the 1950s, many jazz musicians have focused primarily on J.S. Bach and have reworked him again and again...Here is another masterpiece, recorded by Freiburg pianist Johannes Mössinger, who has (also) been working with Bach for many years. Born in 1964, the musician has been active on the jazz scene for almost 30 years, but has made excursions into classical music and has repeatedly recorded Bach themes for many years. In jazz, he has worked with numerous US musicians such as Joe Lovano, Joel Frahm, Don Bradon and Adam Nussbaum to present his own compositions.Mösssinger has his very own view of Bach and combines Bach with his own music: Just as Mössinger transforms Bach, the music also transforms the listener: A walk through a carefully curated juxtaposition that sharpens, challenges and changes our view of Bach. Bach has moved, has been moved, has changed his spatiality and changed position. In the end, a different light shines on it, writes musician and author Maria Reich in the liner notes to the LP.
