Undoubtedly, Quicksilver Messenger Service along with Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead build up the first row of the West Coast Sound of the Psychedelic Era of the late 1960's! One of the highlights of each jam of the band was the crackling interaction between guitarists John Cipollina and Gary Duncan, who lashed each other to spacey heights, exemplary listening to the band's masterpiece Happy Trails. What an album! John Cipollina has long been dead, but Gary Duncan continued the project under his name starting in the 1990s, recruiting interesting Bay Area musicians and making them one of the most popular jam bands again. The recordings of this record were made in 1997 in Fieldstone, CA and show Duncan and his Quicksilver Band once again immensely playful. The long, sprawling jams (between 8:34 and 15:46 minutes) range from classic West Coast rock to jazz and fusion. They are tangible songs that capture the sun and the special way of life in California and transfer it to the listener. Just like back then! Gary Duncan had been very pleased that Sireena Records turned to him and proposed to release these recordings on vinyl for the first time. He was already very ill at the time of the contact and died unfortunately on 29 June at the age of 72 years. Dedicated to his memory, this record is reminiscent of a wonderful man who had the hippie thought deep inside him - and a guitarist who was without any doubt one of the greats of his time!
