Emerald, a six-piece band from Japan, has been captivating fans with their groovy, urban, and sophisticated songwriting under the slogan 'Night Urban Pops. The album opens with A1, 'You & I,' which opens with a pleasant floating sensation created by the harmony between the lustrous, rich, nighttime mood of the sound and the emotion-filled falsetto vocals of vocalist Yosuke Nakano. The song continues with A2 'in the mood,' a neo-soul number reminiscent of D'Angelo, and A3 'Pendulum,' a rather fresh J-pop approach with it's modulation of the chorus, and the song's outstanding mellowness makes you want to close your eyes and listen. This is a masterpiece that establishes their one and only sound, which cannot be described only in the context of city pop.
