The long running Brooklyn-based collective Chicha Libre counts members from Mexico, France, Venezuela and the US, taking it's inspiration from exotic strains of cumbia. On their followup to the mostly original tracks on Canibalismo (2012), the band turned it's attention to some well known classics on this 12", applying their psychedelic chicha template to the Clash, Love, Los Shapis, and the Danny Eflman theme song to The Simpsons. Originally released on Record Store Day in 2013, it has been remastered and is available on vinyl once again. On Cuatro Tigres, Chicha Libre was closing a loop - using a sound that was shaped by Peruvian tropical music to pay tribute to it's own rockero roots - and to some of it's personal heroes.- The Clash, who started mixing up global influences before the expression World Music was coined. - Arthur Lee's Love, still one of the greatest examples of psychedelic sophistication, one that has endured and seems more relevant than ever.- Los Shapis (Peru), were something like the Beatles of Chicha, with dozens of hits, stadiums filled with screaming fans and goofy movies. - And when the producers of The Simpsons 20th anniversary special asked Chicha LIbre to perform the Simpsons theme "chicha" style, they were too happy to oblige.Jacket designed by Peruvian artist Elliot Tupac, whose posters and murals can be found on the walls of every neighborhood in Lima. Credited with perfecting a Chicha graphic style which has come to represent Peruvian urban culture. His work has been shown all over Latin America.
