Abraxas was founded in 1985 by bassist Jan Müller and drummer Heiko Burst. After a few line-up changes in 1988, the band recorded their first demo “Vampire”. Singer Joachim Hittinger then found guitarist Oliver Mindner, who was 15 years old at the time. In April 1989, the band released the EP “Shattered by a Terrible Prediction” in an edition of 1,000 copies, which the musicians sold at their concerts and distributed themselves. By the end of 1989, the line-up had changed: Stephan Rohner was a new second guitarist and, more recently, a keyboard player: Andreas Hittinger. In June 1990, the band hired singer Chris Klauke, who had previously played in the Hamburg metal band Mania. In 1991, the award-winning demo "Signs" was released. In December 1992, Abraxas took third place in Germany's largest rock festival for young talent, the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg; before that, in March, they even took first place at the festival for young artists in Reutlingen. The album "The Liaison" was only released in Japan in 1993, and was then re-released as "Tomorrow's World" for the rest of the world by LMP in 1998. Despite this success, the talented band broke up in the same year. While "Tomorrow's World" is now available cheaply as a used CD, the situation is completely different with the EP "Shattered By A Terrible Prediction". You can expect to pay at least 100 euros if it's in good condition. And the tape "Signs" doesn't change hands for less than 50 euros today either. No wonder given the quality that ABRAXAS offered. Golden Core is now releasing both rarities, restored and remastered, as CD and LP. Both products are dedicated to guitarist Oliver Mindner, who died in 2022. Fans of bands like Helloween, Heaven's Gate or Gamma Ray will still love ABRAXAS in 2025.
