Originally released in 1999, Empires places VNV Nation among the top of the electro-industrial genre. Aggressive and driving with an absolutely huge electronic sound the album combines trance, dark wave, synthpop and electronic body music (EBM). VNV Nation is a European-based electronic project led by singer, songwriter and producer Ronan Harris. VNV Nation's sound blends poetic and thought provoking lyrics with a sound that ranges from melodic dance beats and indie-electronic anthems, to haunting ballads and post-classical soundtrack pieces.
