Toilet Rats is the project of Minneapolis-based Tommy Rehbein, and Black Cats is LP3, arriving five years into one of the most reliably fun and noisy catalogs in DIY post-punk. Across 14 tracks and roughly 30 minutes, the record expands on the Toilet Rats sound while keeping everything fans love intact: fuzz pedals, synthesizers, drum machines, distorted bass, and chorus pedals all present and accounted for. New wrinkles include moody 80s college rock excursions nodding at The Wedding Present and pre-spiral Smiths, sitting comfortably alongside punk scorchers and new wave dance floor numbers.
