The Fifth Estate Then and Now
A rock band out of a factory section of Stamford, CT by way of NYC, especially Greenwich Village. The Fifth E state often played 5 or 6 hours a night, 6 nights a week, for months at a time. They rocked harder and heavier than most bands of the 60s. This did them no great service as to the necessary AM Radio pop required of the day. So, due to a bet at an NYC party, they jokingly did “Ding Dong The Witch i s Dead”. It was a huge hit around the world. This and 3 other hits moved them onto huge concerts around the country.
