Following the success of Demon Records' highly-collectable 7" picture disc releases of T. Rex's 1973 singles, we now turn to the 1972 singles, again featuring photos from the Keith Morris archive. • The second release is the absolute classic "Telegram Sam", originally released in January 1972, effectively a preview of the forthcoming album "The Slider", and these days amongst Marc Bolan's best remembered songs. It was the band's third UK number 1, where it stayed for two weeks (spending fourteen weeks in the charts in total). It knocked The New Seekers' "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" off the top spot, and was itself replaced by Chicory Tip's "Son Of My Father", producer Giorgio Moroder's first UK hit. • The song was covered by Bauhaus in 1980. • The first of the B-sides, "Cadilac" (always spelt this way), did not appear on "The Slider" album, released in July 1972.
