"One of the most fondly remembered duos in the history of American roots music (and probably the most widely recognized duo in the history of the blues), the legendary Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee worked for decades in an acoustic folk-blues setting. Exponents of the traditional Piedmont blues style, their material consisted primarily of their own compositions, as well as historic tunes. This essential LP edition includes one of Terry & McGhee’s fi nest albums as a duo, At Sugar Hill. Originally released in 1962 by the Fantasy label, this long play contains eleven songs recorded live at the famous San Francisco nightclub. These recordings have excellent sound quality, and showcase the blues tandem at their peak. The duo's casual virtuosity and seemingly telepathic interplay is evident throughout the set. Either musician could easily command the stage as a solo artist, but it is the combination of their two divergent styles that makes these Sugar Hill recordings so compelling. Both musicians get chances to sing some of their classic original compositions, including ""Sweet Woman Blues,"" ""Born to Live the Blues,"" ""Baby, I Knocked on Your Door,"" and ""I Got a Little Girl."" The material is extremely strong and the sound has held up remarkably well over the years. In addition to the original masterpiece, this limited collector’s edition includes 2 bonus tracks performed by the duo in the early 1950s: “Rising Sun” and their personal reading of the great protest song “I Shall Not Be Moved.” "
