Pieta Brown Paradise Outlaw
Gatefold, eco vinyl. 10th Anniversary Reissue of Pieta Brown's beloved album 'Paradise Outlaw,' first time available on vinyl. During it's initial release in 2014 'Paradise Outlaw' was met with critical acclaim from NPR, American Songwriter, Uncut, Bust Magazine, No Depression, All Music Guide, and Chicago Reader among many others. Brown recorded 'Paradise Outlaw' with a small group of musicians at Justin Vernon's April Base studio, and it's airy, texturally rich arrangements rarely call attention to themselves or to the talents of the players, instead serving as moody backdrops for her gorgeous, slippery voice; in her hands the blues hover with cloudy foreboding and old-time songs become billowy dances. Amos Lee adds gritty physicality in a duet with Brown on "Do You Know," but even on that song she drifts ethereally, never disturbing the mystery that dwells inside each of her phrases. Vernon also contributes vocals to two tracks on the album "Ricochet" and "Flowers of Love," and deemed at the time the album "is probably my favorite record ever made at our studio."
