"El acto" was the first and only album by Parálisis Permanente, a band that was light-years ahead of most Spanish musical acts of the early 1980s in terms of aesthetics, attitude, themes, and ambition. Released in October 1982, it instantly became a cult classic, largely thanks to it's razor-sharp lyrics, stormy atmosphere, and unsettling darkness. The two cover versions included on the album - "Heroes" (David Bowie) and "Quiero ser tu perro" (I Wanna Be Your Dog, The Stooges) - also helped build it's legendary status. Tragedy struck Parálisis Permanente on May 14, 1983, when a car accident claimed the life of Eduardo Benavente at just 21 years old, abruptly cutting short one of the most meteoric rising careers in Spanish music.
