Lunatic Beudo features the young rappers Zébédé, Bouba and G BOY from Kinshasa. These kids are surviving life on the streets. Yet, they all make fun of U.S. American gangsta sh*t hip-hop because they know when it comes to real street life nobody will tell them nothing.
How can anger, clarity of social analysis, the experience of pressure and pain as well as mystery be reconciled? In the flow of Congolese rapper Orakle Ngoy. Which she uses for a feminist critique of the (capitalist) system, being one of the very few female rap stars from Kinshasa. Decolonized beats based on exotica samples were provided for Orakle by German producer Martin Georgi, a son of English-Sinhalese immigrants.

How the Lunatic Beudo feat. Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY / Orakle Ngoy EP came about:
The Lunatic Beudo feat. Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY / Orakle Ngoy EP is going back to an initiative by Johannes Braun, co-founder and managing director of the Kunsthaus Acud Macht Neu in Berlin, who invited us, Cornelia Lund and Holger Lund as directors of the Berlin based media art platform fluctuating images, to participate in the exchange project Kinzonzi in 2021. Kinzonzi as a project was curated by Lydia Schellhammer and Christ Mukenge (Laboratoire Kontempo, Kinshasa) and funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin Senate, among others. As part of this project, which took place between Berlin and Kinshasa, we as fluctuating images were able to curate a film program, supported by the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Ravensburg, among others.
On location in Kinshasa, Lydia Schellhammer and Christ Mukenge connected us with Peter Miyalu, a young student at the Académie des Beaux Arts (academy of fine arts) in Kinshasa. Thanks to Peter’s knowledge, we gained completely different insights into Kinshasa’s music video scene than we would ever have been able to from Germany. It was also Peter who established the connection to Lunatic Beudo in order for us to be able to license the music for this record. Lunatic told us how the rapping street kids Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY came about: on the way to the studio, these kids besieged him every day and wanted to know where he was going and what he was doing. To “get rid” of them, he simply took them with him. With him to the studio. And they were there just right. So right that Lunatic included them on his tracks.
As part of the Kinzonzi exchange project, an exhibition was then held at the Haus der Statistik (Berlin) in 2022, to which we invited Martin Georgi, our partner and manager at the record label Seismographic Records (Stuttgart).
Part of the exhibition at Haus der Statistik was a live radio performance by Jasmina Al-Qaisi and Ralf Wendt, during which Orakle Ngoy was a guest. Martin Georgi contacted her immediately, then invited her to the Hotel Chelsea studio in Stuttgart in 2023 and provided the beats for Orakle’s rap.
Initiatives, contacts and support – the Lunatic Beudo feat. Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY / Orakle Ngoy EP was born out of this network. Without this network, it would not exist.

The EP Lunatic Beudo feat. Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY / Orakle Ngoy est le résultat d’une initiative de Johannes Braun, cofondateur et directeur général de la maison d’art berlinoise Acud Macht Neu, qui nous a invités, Cornelia Lund et Holger Lun, directeurs de la plateforme d’art médiatique berlinoise fluctuating images, à participer au projet d’échange Kinzonzi en 2021. Le projet Kinzonzi a été organisé par Lydia Schellhammer et Christ Mukenge (Laboratoire Kontempo, Kinshasa) et financé par la Fondation fédérale allemande pour la culture et le Sénat de Berlin, entre autres. Dans le cadre de ce projet, qui s’est déroulé entre Berlin et Kinshasa, nous comme fluctuating images avons pu organiser un programme de films, soutenu notamment par l’Université coopérative d’État du Bade-Wurtemberg, Ravensburg.
Sur place à Kinshasa, Lydia Schellhammer et Christ Mukenge nous ont mis en contact avec Peter Miyalu, un jeune étudiant de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa. Grâce à ses connaissances, nous avons pu avoir un tout autre aperçu de la scène des clips musicaux de Kinshasa que nous n’aurions pu avoir depuis l’Allemagne. Peter nous a également mis en contact avec Lunatic Beudo, ce qui nous a permis d’obtenir les licences pour la musique de ce disque. Lunatic nous a aussi raconté comment il en est arrivé à avoir les street kids rappeurs Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY : sur le chemin du studio, ces gamins l’assiégeaient chaque jour et voulaient savoir où il allait et ce qu’il faisait. Pour se « débarrasser » d’eux, il les a tout simplement emmenés avec lui, au studio. Et ils y étaient bien. Si bien qu’ils ont fini par apparaître dans dans les morceaux de Lunatic.
Dans le cadre du projet d’échange Kinzonzi, une exposition a eu lieu en 2022 à la Haus der Statistik (Berlin), à laquelle nous avons invité Martin Georgi, notre partenaire et directeur du label de disques Seismographic Records (Stuttgart).
L’exposition à la Haus der Statistik comprenait une performance radio en direct de Jasmina Al-Qaisi et Ralf Wendt, avec la participation d’Orakle Ngoy. Martin Georgi a immédiatement pris contact avec elle, puis l’a invitée en 2023 dans le studio de l'hôtel Chelsea à Stuttgart et a fourni les beats pour le rap d’Orakle.
Initiatives, contacts et encouragements – c’est grâce à ce réseau qu’est né le Lunatic Beudo feat. Zébédé, Bouba & G BOY / Orakle Ngoy EP. Sans ce réseau, il n’existerait pas.
