Fearless Friday (2015) showcases Omer Klein's trio with Haggai Cohen-Milo and Amir Bresler, blending fresh originals with fearless energy.
Fearless Friday (2015) marks a key moment in the career of pianist and composer Omer Klein. Recorded at Bauer Studios after a year of touring, it introduced the re-formed Omer Klein Trio with bassist Haggai Cohen-Milo and drummer Amir Bresler. The album features six originals and a re-imagined version of Duke Ellington's "Azure." What defines Fearless Friday is not only its repertoire but also the energy of a trio shaped on stage: each track carries its own atmosphere, while the improvisations are full of spontaneity and fearless exploration.
The recording also expanded the trio's international recognition. With its blend of lyricism, rhythmic vitality, and cosmopolitan influences, Fearless Friday confirmed Klein as one of the most original voices in jazz. In later years, he released acclaimed albums, blending Middle Eastern traditions, European nuances, and the pulse of New York jazz.
Beyond the trio, Klein has written for theatre, dance, film, and orchestra. In 2023 he celebrated a decade with his trio through the release of Life & Fire, an album reflecting their musical journey.
Today, Klein is not only a performer but also an educator. In March 2025, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München appointed him Professor of Jazz Piano, beginning October 2025. He stresses guiding young musicians toward individuality and sensitivity. At the same time, he serves as Artist in Residence at the Alte Oper Frankfurt for the 2024/25 season, where he premiered his new sextet The Poetics.
Through all these activities, Fearless Friday remains a landmark in his discography: a recording of transition, risk-taking, and the fearless spirit that continues to shape Klein's work.
