During a European tour by HADES, it became apparent that the band would soon break up. Guitarist Dan Lorenzo formed Non-Fiction with Dan Nastasi (MUCKY PUP, DOG EAT DOG), who subsequently recorded an EP. However, the line-up carousel was to turn again and HADES and WATCHTOWER singer Alan Tecchio and bassist Kevin Bolembach (later SEVEN WITCHES, JACK FROST, among others) joined the band. In 1991, the debut "Preface" was released on Grand Slamm Records, in Europe on Steamhammer/SPV. At the time, many fans of HADES and WATCHTOWER must have been surprised by the doom metal sound, while fans of this style remained unaware of it without the Internet. It is astonishing that certain trademarks of HADES can still be found throughout the music of NON-FICTION (see also the 1995 reunion album by HADES). The cover artwork, reminiscent of the splendor of the Hipgnosis graphics company, gives the album a perfect aura and hints at the groove of old LED ZEPPELIN. Both HADES and WATCHTOWER (with Alan Tecchio) are - sporadically - active again today and quite a few fans are hoping that Non-Fiction will also make another appearance. The musical continuation, albeit a little more modern, is currently Dan Lorenzo's band PATRIARCHS IN BLACK, currently enjoying success in the USA.
