A historic gem of New York punk history from the late 1970s, available physically for the first time ever on BLITZKRIEG POP! At first it sounds like a joke: A German, a Japanese and two African Americans form a band. This refers to the NEW YORK NI**ERS, which was founded in New York in the late 1970s and would definitely be looking for a different name in 2022. As is well known, times were different back then when LEO (guitar), WOLF (drums), VICTOR (vocals), JERRY (bass) and DIETER (guitar, ex ROTZKOTZ) got together in 1977 after they had been in the CBGBs thanks to bands like the RAMONES or PETTI SMITH GROUP were infected by the punk virus. After a few concerts, the first single JUST LIKE DRESDEN '45 / HEADLINER was released two years later on the band's own NYN RECORDS label. This was also the last release at the same time, the band and thus the label broke up again in 1980. So now, out of nowhere, the live LP LIVE AT MAX'S KANSAS CITY, recorded in July 1979 and based on a concert recording that comes from a fan who died about ten years ago, who recorded many concerts with a tape recorder at the time. After a while it fell into the hands of Lenny Kaye (PATTI SMITH GROUP) who had painstakingly restored it in sessions, mixed by MILES CHRISTENSEN (DOORS, DREAM SYNDICATE). Like most bands in the local scene, NYN played straight, rock-influenced (proto)punk, as becomes evident when listening to these recordings. A total of 10 songs are offered, including the two mentioned songs from the 7. Then there's SEARCH & DESTROY from the STOOGES as a bouncer. The LP also comes with an informative 40-page booklet with lots of photos, flyers and liner notes from NYN guitarist Dieter Runge. A must buy for all history fans!
