A journey to the center of yourself.
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer – Kaela summons us into her personal ambient cosmos with her debut album Supraliminal, a nostalgic and atmospheric ambient odyssey with a dusting of pop. “I’ve always felt that an album or song can be a microcosm. This record feels holographic, like a world that exists parallel and invisible to our visible world.”
Her music has the power to transport and transform, a trait seen by mentor and friend, M83’s Anthony Gonzalez, who is releasing Supraliminal on his brand new label Other Suns in 2025. “When I listened to Supraliminal for the first time, I realized that Kaela had just blossomed into an intriguing fantastical artist. This album takes me places I’ve never been before. And I am extremely proud to release this record on Other Suns.”
Kaela had an early start to a music career when she joined M83 in 2016 and has found continued success as an artist in her own right, collaborating and touring with King Princess, Troye Sivan, and Sofi Tukker, whose remix of her song “Spiral” has gained over 3 million streams. Her voice and lyrics are featured heavily on the latest M83 album Fantasy, notably on “Kool Nuit” where she has a feature credit as the haunting voice of a space age lullaby. Whether she is entrancing us solo or lending her talents to others, Kaela's voice as an artist is undeniable.
Working from her studio in Los Angeles with an orchestra of analog instruments by her side, she has dreamt up a brand new universe with her sublime new musical portal Supraliminal.
Supraliminal takes us to a spectacular new world in a sonic sandbox of glitter. Shimmering synthesizers, multi-dimensional instruments and transcendental vocals animate a colorful, futuristic soundscape where surrealism meets subconscious messaging, inner demons meet the higher self, and childlike wonder communes with deep grief. She encourages us on our own mysterious paths, to swim through the waves of being, and begin the descent into our minds.
“Supraliminal is a psychological term which means ‘existing above the threshold of consciousness.’ I’m interested in the moment something crosses that threshold into our awareness. Whether it’s the subconscious mind, the art we pursue, or the never ending social media feeds - what’s going on beneath the surface to cause a message to break through the noise and come into conscious awareness?”

She continues, “Our modern world is filled with so much noise. The innocence of youthful curiosity is easily lost in the barrage of advertisements and algorithms. It can become hard to access one’s own truth. But that’s no reason to give up. Progress happens over time, in minds, cultures, and bodies, with the exchange of one thought or idea for another. I discovered as I wrote this album that if I was devoted to maintaining an eternal, patient posture, things would start to click. There would be an understanding.”
Kaela’s strength is in her compositions, which are complex and thoughtful, unpredictable but satisfying. Her meditative lyrics and deft manipulation of synths form iridescent foundations for her most endearing and commanding vocals yet, sprinkled throughout the mostly instrumental record, leaving us begging for more. “I want to surprise people by disregarding set ideas of how a song or album should be arranged.” Blending multiple genres, Kaela offers us works rooted in complex tenderness, melancholy, introspection, triumph and personal revelations.

Supraliminal is an invitation to embark on a mystical journey. Kaela explains, “The conscious mind is unaware of the unconscious mind, which is working relentlessly - feeding data, solving problems, filtering sensory information, and regulating the body. Many of our habits and behaviors are driven by the unconscious mind. It’s important to quiet the mind. Beneath our fears lie our true selves.”
