A reflective album revisiting past tunes to offer solace in anxious times music as healing, sharing emotion and lightness from a lifetime in jazz
Marking sixty years of musical life in an anxious present, this project turns back to earlier compositions that may have been overlooked yet still console. Music first moves the one who hears it within. Listening again to these pieces revived the sensations felt at their creation--clarity, intimacy, relief. They offered consolation, and sharing them became necessary: with fellow musicians, loved ones, friends, and the faithful audience that has accompanied this journey. These are healing songs, seeking "profound lightness" through sound.
This is a retrospective without nostalgia. The question is simple: what can past music still do now? It can steady attention, open space, and link personal memory to collective listening. Each composition carries traces of encounters and travels while speaking directly in the present. The aim is not commentary but connection through sound.
Henri Texier, born in Paris in 1945, has been a central figure in modern European jazz. From the vibrant Paris scene of the 1960s, his work with artists such as Don Cherry and Daniel Humair shaped an open musical language. His music integrates jazz with folk, African, and Middle Eastern influences, forming a distinctive voice anchored by the double bass. Groups like African Unity and the Azur Quartet extended this vision, uniting lyricism and rhythmic drive.
Across acclaimed recordings and multiple Victoires du Jazz, Texier has built a body of work marked by invention and emotional depth. This album returns to earlier compositions as living material, offering solace and shared listening through healing songs.
