Dun-Dun Band is a ten-member ensemble based in Toronto led by guitarist Craig Dunsmuir, inspired by North African gnawa music, American minimalism, progressive/post-rock and spiritual jazz. Featuring members of cross-genre jazz-informed groups The Weather Station, Eucalyptus, Badge Epoque Ensemble, GUH, and The Brodie West Quintet, Dun-Dun Band formed in 2016 and debuted at that year's Long Winter at Toronto's Great Hall, having then.taken part in the Music Gallery's X-Avant Festival, TONE Festival, the Intersection Festival at Yonge/Dundas Square, and Hamilton's Zula Presents Something Else! Festival. Dun-Dun Band’s sound is underpinned by the unison ostinato odd-time riffs of Dunsmuir as guitarist/cue conductor with Josh Cole on electric bass; Blake Howard on acoustic and Jay Anderson on electronic percussion; the chordal and solo guitar of Kurt Newman; the additional atmospherics of keyboardist Mike Smith; and the horn section of alto saxophonists/clarinetists Karen Ng and Brodie West, tenor saxophonist/bass clarinetist Ted Crosby, and tenor saxophonist Colin Fisher, a group of seasoned improvisers frequently playing such local leftfield jazz-friendly venues as the TRANZAC Club, the Emmet Ray and Wenona Craft Beer Lodge. Pita Parka, Pt. II: Nim Egduf to be released on September 12, 2025 is the follow up piece to Pita Parka, Pt. I: Xam Egdub, released by Ansible Editions on Fri. May 3rd, 2024.
