Avant-Garde Black Metal from the deep south of Italy
Diespnea was formed in 2014 as the solo project of Wolke. In 2019, it evolved into a studio collaboration with Anxitudo, a partnership born from a shared devotion to black metal and a desire to craft something deeply personal. Their vision was to build upon solid black metal roots while expanding toward avant-garde and experimental territories, continuously pushing beyond established musical boundaries.
In 2020, Diespnea released their debut full-length Pneuma through Naturmacht Productions, an album steeped in the tradition of atmospheric black metal. With Radici (2026), the duo transcends any rigid stylistic definitions, fully embracing an avant-garde approach influenced by pioneering acts such as Dødheimsgard and Manes.
Lyrically and conceptually, Diespnea delve into profound themes, existence, human emotion, and the darker recesses of the soul. Though they have yet to bring their vision to the stage, the possibility of live performances remains open for the future.
Radici took shape over several years of intermittent work, some ideas even predating Pneuma. Conceived amid a period of profound transformation, the album reflects a complete reimagining of the band's compositional and creative process, freeing them from their previous frameworks. Its themes are universal: the duality of life and death, the concept of masks, and collective rituals, both human and animal.
The production (recording, mixing, and mastering) was entirely handled by the band, an intentional choice reflecting their pursuit of authenticity and unpredictability. By merging analog recordings with unorthodox digital techniques, Diespnea achieved the raw, dynamic tension that defines Radici , a record that refuses to compromise.
