Bill Kirchen HAmmer Of The Honky-Tonk Gods
Telecaster master Bill Kirchen was right there at the BIG BANG of Americana as a founder member Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen in 1967. Playing guitar has been his only job ever since. After embarking on a solo career he made albums for Blacktop and Hightone before being recruited in to Nick Lowe's touring and recording band - The Impossible Birds - in the 1990s. During one of these touring stints in USA Bill met Proper Records boss Malcolm Mills and next time Bill went into the studio with his own material, it was in London and Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods was the result. The album was recorded at Proper's studio by Paul Riley and features a stellar group of Nick Lowe on bass with Nick's other band members Geraint Watkins on keyboards and Bobby Irwin on drums, completed by the great Austin DeLone also on keyboards. The session took just three days to record in 2004 and twenty years later it is released on vinyl for the first time...because it's still fantastic!
