A Certain Ratio - Dirty Boy / Shack Up

A Certain Ratio

Dirty Boy / Shack Up

Release date: September 06, 2019
Label: Mute
Mute are excited to announce the release of A Certain Ratio’s Dirty Boy / Shack Up remixed, limited edition 12” EP. This EP includes two brand new mixes of “Dirty Boy”. The Chris Massey mix (featuring vocals from Barry Adamson and Tony Wilson) has already been causing a stir on the club scene. MixMag rated it 8/10, saying “Shades of Ian Pooley-style low-slung throbbing bass action with a firecracker style cowbell should please all those with twitchy shoulders, and Barry Adamson’s vocal make this one a biggie for those who like their disco with a bit of bite”. The “Shack Up” remixes are by Electronic (Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr) and have been unavailable since their original release in the 1990s. 2019 sees A Certain Ratio celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of their debut single – the Martin Hannett produced “All Night Party” (Factory Records’ first single release) – which was described recently by Record Collector as “a statement of future intentions: to set funk off against nervous angst.” They went on to be hailed universally as pioneers of what became known as “punk funk”. The band have been touring the UK throughout the year and add festivals and European dates to the mix later this year, with an eye toward US shows in 2020. Their sound is not easily pigeon holed and their influence can never be understated. The band introduced the avant-garde elements of funk, jazz, electronics, tape loops and technology to the pop song, wrapping it in a post punk aesthetic.
