Beast Coast Escape From New York

  • Legacy Recordings
  • 2xLP; RSD Exclusive
  • 2000
The collective has completed many tours together, and its debut album Escape From New York comes across as a collection of high level cyphers from Joey Bada$$, Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, Flatbush Zombies & more. Not surprising as the Brooklyn natives, a lot of them friends since childhood, have never shied away from the lyrics-centered tradition of New York hip-hop.Their distinctive voices and skills on the mic, as well as NY-centric storytelling drive the album, and the chemistry is undeniable. The production is tight, but this is also where the supergroup shifts away from musically, perhaps what the title of the project is alluding to. Erick Arc Elliott, Power Pleasant, Sam Wish, and Tyler Dopps lay down slick, bouncy instrumentals as opposed to boom bap, and it's refreshing and fun to hear the group expand its sound. Check out "Distance," "Left Hand," "Snow In The Stadium," "Far Away," and "Coast/Clear."The RSD Black Friday edition features 2LPs on translucent orange color and a Beast Coast Sticker.

Buckcherry Time Bomb

  • Real Gone Music
  • LP; RSD First
  • 2000
The last album with the original line-up (plus guitarist Yogi Lonich), 2001's Time Bomb showed that, for Buckcherry, there was no place to go but down. And we mean WAY down…lead singer Josh Todd could have won the award for Rock Star Least Likely to Survive the Year after this record came out. Tracks like "Slit My Wrists," "Whiskey in the Morning," and "Porno Star" capture and celebrate a lifestyle decadent even by the standards of the band's Sunset Strip stomping grounds. Yet, Todd and Buckcherry are still rockin' over 20 years later...and Time Bomb holds up with its post-AC/DC/Aerosmith/Guns 'N' Roses/Mötley Crüe unholy racket. First time on vinyl, in a metallic brown with black swirl pressing limited to 2500 copies worldwide, complete with inner sleeve!

David J Tracks From The Attic

  • Independent Project Records, LLC
  • 3 x LP; RSD First
  • 500
Attics have always exerted an irresistible pull on David J’s imagination. They can unveil luminous jewels that time and dust made seem lost. With Tracks from the Attic, the Bauhaus and Love and Rockets co-founder invites us to join him and climb up the ladder. A most fascinating journey ensues: we’re looking through boxes of tapes, getting reacquainted with an artist we’ve known for a long time, yet the intimate songs he recorded in solitary over three decades reveal new sides to him.Even while busy with his two legendary groups, David J burst with songs; this is a thrilling selection of recordings he made between 1983 and 2004, some in the studio and most at home, with only the help of his Muse, a recorder and a lighted candle. Like all good attic finds, these songs were committed to tape and almost forgotten - it wasn’t until a fan suggested he’d offer his digitizing skills that David J thought about revisiting them again. All, except deep cut “This Town”, had never been previously heard. The fact that most of these tunes didn’t end up being beloved classics (something that, once you hit play, your ears will hardly come to terms with) is but a sign of David J’s ever busy creative state. Mostly composed on acoustic guitar, they will offer unexpected revelations to long-time fans, as they bring to light facets of his musical self that couldn’t be fully expressed in a band setting. It is indeed fascinating to follow the evolution of David J’s way with songs through the decades, from the observational lyrical montages of the early days to a later, confident embrace of the deeply personal. At the same time, Tracks from the Attic can also be seen as a striking introduction for newcomers - it does feel like meeting one of the great British singer-songwriters for the first time. ‘Oh No! Not Another Songwriter!’, one of the box set’s highlights cheekily cries out. Well, this box set interjects, this is not just any songwriter. Pressed on red vinyl for RSD Black Friday.

De La Soul 3 Feet High and Rising

  • Chrysalis Records
  • 7" Vinyl Box Set; RSD First
  • 3500
3 Feet High and Rising is the debut studio album by hip-hop trio De La Soul, and was released on March 3, 1989. It marked the first of three full-length collaborations with producer Prince Paul, which would become the critical and commercial peak of both parties. It contains the singles, “Me Myself and I”, “The Magic Number,” “Buddy,” and “Eye Know”. The album title came from the Johnny Cash song “Five Feet High and Rising”. It is listed on both Rolling Stone’s 200 Essential Rock Records and The Source’s 100 Best Rap Albums. When Village Voice held its annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll for 1989, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1. It was also listed on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.Released amid the 1989 boom in gangsta rap, which gravitated towards hardcore, confrontational, violent lyrics, De La Soul's uniquely positive style made them an oddity beginning with the first single, “Me, Myself and I.” Their positivity meant many observers labeled them a “hippie” group, based on their declaration of the “D.A.I.S.Y. Age” (Da. Inner. Soul. Yall). Sampling artists as diverse as Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and The Turtles, 3 Feet High and Rising is often viewed as the stylistic beginning of 1990s alternative hip hop (and especially jazz rap). 3 Feet High & Rising was chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry for its cultural significance and general excellence. This special boxset release of De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising includes twelve 7” custom singles pressed on splatter vinyl and housed in custom sleeves, housed in a box that includes a 7” pinup and a double-sided 7” slipmat, and is available first at record stores as part of RSD Black Friday. Dexter Gordon & Slide Hampton A Day In Copenhagen

  • MPS
  • LP; RSD Limited Run / Regional Focus
  • 1000
With his big, warm, round-toned sound, sophisticated phrasing, and hip quotes, Dexter Gordon was one of the major forces on the tenor saxophone from the mid-1940s until his death in 1990. Gordon was cited by both Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane as a major influence on their playing and is acknowledged as a jazz icon. The popularity of mainstream jazz was on the decline in the States during the 1960s. The Vietnam war and racial turmoil were in high gear, and many of the music’s top-flight musicians, including Gordon, migrated to Europe in order both to escape and to make a living playing jazz. Gordon eventually settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. During this period, he usually played and recorded backed by a piano trio, but this 1969 recording is different. The usual quartet has been expanded with some of those premiere jazz ‘refugees’, each a major voice on his instrument, assembled for the session. One of the great modern jazz trombonists, Slide Hampton, is also a composer/arranger of note. The album was a collaborative venture between Gordon and Hampton, and three of the compositions and all the arrangements on the album are his. The classy Jamaican trumpeter Dizzy Reese completes the front line. The rhythm section includes two jazz giants who were Gordon’s constant companions at Copenhagen’s famous Club Montmartre, fellow American expatriate pianist Kenny Drew and the great Danish bassist N-H Örsted-Peterson. The Gordon/Drew pairing is one of the classic horn-/piano matchups in jazz, and has often been compared with the Miles Davis/Red Garland and John Coltrane/McCoy Tyner pairings. Art Taylor, who “helped define the sound of modern drumming”, was brought in from Paris to complete the all-star rhythm section.

Enon Believo!

  • LP; RSD Exclusive
  • 1050
Long, long ago, at the beginning of the new millennium, the world begot Enon. It was before Willliamsburg was, like, totally over, before beards made you cool, and just at the cusp of all this modern computer recording tomfoolery. What a time, before innocence lost. From all this came a much beloved and oft-overlooked record – one Touch and Go is damn proud to re-issue on vinyl – Believo! This record makes a bridge between the 20th and 21st centuries – full of effects, samples, pop sensibilities, and a complete respect for and disregard of The Rules. In 2000, Enon was all Brooklyn style, comprised of John Schmersal of Brainiac and Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon of Skeleton Key. John and Rick bonded over a penchant for suitcases full of electronics and battery powered trickery – portable musical distractions capable of making tracks on the fly. That’s what this era was all about for Enon – the suitcases and being in the moment wherever they were. Though the band would later evolve to 2007’s lineup of Schmersal, Toko Yasuda and Matt Schulz, you’ve got to know where you’re coming from to see how you got to where you are today. So, come along with us, please, to the re-birth of Believo!""Includes full album download + 2 bonus download tracks from the out of print 1999 Suz EQ /to whom it may consume 7-inch

  • Amoeba Records
  • 2xLP; RSD First
  • 7500
In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album, GP. Gram put together a pretty great band, including the then-unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were somewhat uneven at first, but by midtour the band started to find its groove. One show stood out to pedal steel player Neil Flanz: the third night at the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia. Neil felt that this was the best show of the tour and requested a copy of the soundboard recording. He saved it for almost forty years, and then it was acquired by Amoeba Music for a future Gram release. It then disappeared in the Amoeba vault for another ten years before it was rediscovered when Amoeba moved to a new location in LA.It turns out Neil was right. This is Gram and Emmylou at their finest. And it’s the next to last club date ever for Gram and the Fallen Angels. A 50-year-old soundboard cassette offers some unique challenges, but thanks to the efforts of some of the world’s best archival sound restoration engineers, the beauty and energy of Gram, Emmy and the band shine through.

  • 7500
The fourth night of the famed Fillmore West run that produced the bulk of Live/Dead is an exceptional example--going back more than 54 years—as to why you never miss a Sunday show. Opening (!!) with what would later be known as the Live/Dead suite, 3/2/69 demonstrates the Dead had not only NOT run out of steam after three magnificent shows, in many ways they surpassed the previous nights' wildly powerful music. When your first set is the entire Live/Dead suite, what do you for a second set? Simple! You play for more than an hour and half, making sure everyone goes home way too late, but unimaginably happy. After the first set's Dark Star>St. Stephen>The Eleven>Lovelight, the second set puts so much icing on the cake that it almost becomes a cake made of nothing but frosting: That's It For The Other One, Morning Dew, Alligator>Caution, and so much more. We're thrilled to be completing the quartet of what is widely considered one of the greatest runs in Grateful Dead history, mixed from the 16-track master tapes by Jeffrey Norman, and mastered by Jeffrey along with tape restoration by Plangent Processes.

Iwrestledabearonce It's All Happening

  • Brutal Planet Records
  • LP; RSD First
  • 500
2009 debut album on Century Media Records from the electro-metal-trip-hop-dance-jazz pioneers from Shreveport, LA, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, produced by Ryan Boesch (Norma Jean). Get your booties on because metal just got way more interesting. Iwrestledabearonce combines elements of brutal metal, hardcore and mathcore with some ambient music and electro beats and a good dose of humor. This means spastic, hectic music with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. The record is loaded with cool beats and samples, adding to the mayhem even more. Topping off all this noise are female vocals that range from grunts to screams, but also clean sung passages which makes the whole of the band a bit poppy, be it that there are some heavy as &%#@ breakdowns and bashing metal parts. It looks like there is fun for everyone on It’s All Happening! The album segues from guitarists Steven Bradley and John Ganey's syncopated spastic riffs to dance-floor-ready rhythms and beats courtesy of bassist Mike "Rickshaw" Martin and drummer Mikey Montgomery. Above this explosion of styles, vocalist Krysta Cameron screams with precise brutality, before crooning out hauntingly ethereal passages. On cuts like "Danger in the Manger" and "You Ain't No Family," her voice swings like a sledgehammer from bludgeoning to beautiful. The band's charm lies in their sonic sense of ADD — catapulting "The Cat's Pajamas" and "Pazuzu For The Win" from battle-ready math metal to danceable hip-hop doused in jazz for good measure. This RSD Black Friday release includes a 12x12 full color insert and a 12x18 band poster.

Jerry Garcia & David Grisman So What

  • ORG Music
  • 2xLP; RSD First
  • 2400
So What is an acoustic jazz album by Jerry Garcia and mandolinist David Grisman, originally released on Grisman's Acoustic Disc label in August 1998. Garcia and Grisman were friends and collaborators for over three decades, with Grisman’s playing famously featured on the classic Grateful Dead album American Beauty. Joined by sidemen from Grisman's regular band (bassist Jim Kerwin, Joe Craven on percussion, and, on two numbers, flutist Matt Eakle), the co-leaders perform three versions of Miles Davis' "So What," two of apiece of Milt Jackson’s "Bag's Groove” and Davis' "Milestones," and one of Grisman's "16/16.” A rare opportunity to hear Garcia playing straight-ahead jazz music, a genre which he loved but rarely performed. The album is finally coming to vinyl for its 25th anniversary with a double LP.

  • 2000
After Austin-based Scratch Acid disbanded, caterwauling vocalist David Yow and bassist David Wm. Sims moved to Chicago, where they formed The Jesus Lizard and proceed to make a glorious racket throughout the ‘90s. Produced by Gang of Four's Andy Gill and featuring new drummer Jim Kimball, 1998's Blue is their sixth and final studio album, and it's one of their most diverse, even delving into jazz (!) on "Until It Stopped to Die." But other tracks, like "And Then the Rain" and "Postcoital Glow," deliver TJL's trademark mix of menace and borderline psychosis; this band remains among the most defiantly uncommercial acts ever signed to a major label. Reissued on LP for the first time, in a metallic blue vinyl pressing limited to 2500 copies worldwide.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts Mindsets

Every track has its own spin on the band's signature tight instrumentation and heavy guitar riffs which provide the perfect backdrop for Jett's vocals, creating a sound that is both powerful and infectious. Jett's voice is a force to be reckoned with as her powerful vocals are full of attitude and emotion. She delivers each song with strong conviction and energy.

Shortly after Keith’s contributions were laid down, Scratch set to work at his home in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, jamming live on mic alongside Keith’s new guitar parts. Lee’s Swiss mountain lair was not strictly for recording, but the combination art studio, shrine and junk yard with its view of a valley and up into the snow-capped Alpine peaks, added its own influence to the recordings. Captured on portable recording gear with Lee using his special sacred jewel-encrusted Shure microphone, the Voodoo was indeed heavy that day.

"I have been a massive Melvins fan since I first saw them play live in Seattle around 1985. They were a huge influence on me as a musician and big part of our local Seattle burgeoning underground rock music scene in the 80s.I reconnected with the Melvins in 2019 when they performed at the Chris Cornell tribute concert in Los Angeles. After the show, I emailed Buzz and asked if he, Dale, Steven and Toshi could help me record some solo material I had kicking around. I also collaborated with Seattle musician/producer Nate Yaccino and Meagan GrandallI on this release. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, completely dug the results and decided to pay homage to the Melvins by reimagining the artwork (with their permission) from their groundbreaking record Gluey Porch Treatments. Enjoy." Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam)

Meat Puppets Forbidden Places

  • Real Gone Music
  • LP; RSD First
  • 2000
Stop us if you've heard this one before: long-time indie favorite finally signs a major label contract and their first album is an overproduced shadow of their former sound. Well, that AIN'T what happened here; the Meat Puppets's first album for London Records (home of their beloved ZZ Top) is actually one of their best. And, ironically, one of their most overlooked, for their new home's major label marketing muscle was no match for the grunge craze that swept the rock music scene in 1991 (of course, grunge gods Nirvana later gave them a hand up on their MTV Unplugged special). "Sam" kicks off Forbidden Places with frenzied vocals from the brothers Kirkwood and maintains the buzz with such highlights as the lyrical "This Day," the twisted southern rock boogie of "Open Wide," and the pickin' and head-spinnin' album-closing instrumental "Six Gallon Pie." Never before reissued on vinyl, this lost early '90s classic comes in boysenberry with black swirl vinyl inside a jacket with an inner sleeve. Limited to 2500 copies worldwide!

Oscar Peterson Con Alma: The Oscar Peterson Trio -- Live in Lugano, 1964

  • Mack Avenue
  • LP; RSD First
  • 2000
Oscar Peterson’s trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen is widely regarded as Peterson’s “classic trio,” considered by fans the most popular and in-demand of his long, storied career and featured on releases such as 1963’s Night Train and 1964’s We Get Requests.Recorded during their creative peak in 1964 (five years into their collaboration), this previously unheard and unreleased live performance is destined to become a fan favorite from the Oscar Peterson vaults. In his memoir Peterson reflects on the dedication that Ray and Ed brought to the group: "In addition to our trio rehearsals, therefore, Ray would call his own rehearsals in his or Ed’s room and they would simply practice ‘time.’ They created a flexible and multi-faceted rhythmical language that they could apply to any musical statement I might make and enhance any direction I might choose. In short, they practiced ‘all the possibles.’”For RSD Black Friday on limited edition translucent light blue vinyl.

Screaming Trees Live At Egg Studios

  • Screaming Trees LLC
  • LP; RSD First
  • 2500
In early 1991 Screaming Trees were in a shambles. Mark Pickerel had left the band a year earlier and Van was off playing bass for Dinosaur Jr. Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Conner were set to continue with Donna Dresch on bass and a friend of hers on drums. Uncle Anesthesia, the band’s first major label album, on Epic, had just been released. While it seemed that working with the new band members might work, Gary Lee was despondent at the prospect of again playing in the band without his brother as Van had already quit and come back once in 1988. He came up with a plan to ask his brother to return to the Trees if he could get Van’s good friend Dan Peters, who was on a partial hiatus from Mudhoney, to play drums with the band. It worked, Van flew home and the band started rehearsals and soon was touring for the new Epic album.During this time Screaming Trees went into Conrad Uno’s Egg Studio in Seattle to record a couple of demo tracks. After finishing, Mark Lanegan uncharacteristically suggested they record a live set while all the gear and microphones were set up. All alone in Uno’s Seattle basement, the Trees kicked some rock and roll ass. No audience, no cheering crowd but raw Trees power nonetheless. Here is that session which sat unheard for over 30 years. It’s a great testament to why Screaming Trees are remembered as one the Northwest’s most exciting and intriguing live bands. Pressed on white and yellow “fried egg” colored vinyl.

  • 1800
A timeless hip-hop classic, Souls of Mischief's 93 'Til Infinity was released in February 1993 on Jive Records, serving as the second single from their debut album of the same name. A remarkable feat of lyricism, the track stands out from much of the harder hip-hop that was prevalent in the era. Subtly jazzy and melodic, the song drags listeners in with its winding rhymes, giving listeners a glimpse into how the West Coast brings the heat. Four amazing MCs combine forces to illustrate the power of hip-hop boasting, making this track a timeless hit. To celebrate 30 years of 93 ‘Til Infinity, classic remixes are available on vinyl for the first time ever for RSD Black Friday.

Steeler Steeler

  • Sound City
  • LP; RSD First
  • 1500
Although many metalheads probably assume that Swedish guitar shredder Yngwie J. Malmsteen's first U.S.-based band was Alcatrazz, he was a brief member of another obscure Los Angeles-based metal band called Steeler. The group also featured future Keel frontman Ron Keel (bassist Rik Fox and drummer Mark Edwards also rounded out the band), and the quartet's music was similar to the pop/party metal that was ruling the Sunset Strip at the time. The band was one of the first to be signed to Mike Varney's Shrapnel label (one that has since become synonymous with highly technical guitar shredders), resulting in a lone self-titled release from 1983 before their breakup shortly thereafter. Although the album failed to make much noise upon release, it became a cult classic for fans after Malmsteen and Keel. This RSD Black Friday release is pressed on clear red vinyl.

Sweet Level Headed (Alt. Mixes and Demos)

Level Headed was without doubt the most distinctive album Sweet ever produced. It is both varied in itself and very different from almost anything that they had released before. In a lot of ways, it was Sweet taking a risk. It shows many aspects of the band that are easily overlooked on previous albums and unseen aspects for the first time. The album gave them their final Top Ten hit with the dreamy "Love Is Like Oxygen," a single that has become a staple for the band. This release includes never released alternative mixes and demos from the original release. Pressed on Clear Blue Vinyl.

Having left the Fun Boy Three at the end of their 1983 US tour, Terry Hall went straight into forming his next group, The Colourfield. Teaming up with former 2Tone labelmates Toby Lyons and Karl Shale (The Swinging Cats) for the band, The Colourfield launched on legendary UK TV music show The Tube, with their debut single “The Colourfield” in January 1984 and followed up later with their second single “Take”. Their debut album followed in early 1985, which contained the hit single “Thinking of You”, as well as subsequent single “Castles In The Air”. Later in the year they released a couple of non-album singles, “I Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” and “Things Could Be Beautiful” (produced by longtime friend, musician/producer Ian Broudie).By the time of their follow-up album, 1987’s Deception, they had dropped to a duo. Launched with a cover of the Sly & The Stone classic “Running Away” and produced by Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go Go’s, Scritti Politti), the album fared less well and its final single was a cover of the Bobby Hart/Tommy Boyce track “She”, made famous by the Monkees. This RSD Black Friday release collects those singles and others, on 140g Trans Blue vinyl.

The tapes were recorded in April 1959 at the Multnomah Jazz Club and Clark College, both in the Portland Oregon area. Four months later, the Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded their legendary LP, Time Out, and changed the course of jazz forever. This new LP showcases the poll-winning quartet at the peak of their improvisational powers, especially demonstrating their unique mastery of improvising counterpoint (a musical device updated from Bach) while swinging through jazz standards and original compositions.

Back then, both originals and a selection of remixes were released and created serious hype in collector scenes with rare (300 copies each) 7"s that have never been pressed again. Meanwhile, the Turkish psychedelic-folk-disco style got more popular and some collectors discovered it via this series. Now at its 10th anniversary Nublu Records is compiling these 12 remixes under a special edition double-LP pressed on 180g purple vinyl.

X-Cops You Have The Right To Remain Silent

  • Brutal Planet Records
  • LP; RSD First
  • 500
Originally released in 1995 on Metal Blade Records, You Have the Right to Remain Silent is shock rock from members of the band GWAR and other musicians connected to the band. Peter Lee started this band after being shot in a failed carjacking attempt. The idea for X-Cops sparked while filming a commercial segment for Gwar’s Skulhedface. Lee and Dave Brockie were dressed as police officers and Lee pondered, “What would be cooler than a bunch of cops playing kick-ass rock and roll?” This led to Lee, Brockie and GWAR’s drum technician, Mike Dunn, starting X-Cops as a three-piece band. You Have the Right to Remain Silent is more metal-oriented than what GWAR was releasing at the time (1995), with speed metal riffs, drums & relentless energy. While the lyrics are roll-on-the-floor laughable (intentionally), the music is seriously amazing. Highly recommended for those with a taste for offensive/tasteless/sick humor! If you’re a fan of GWAR & know what GWAR’s all about, then you’ve been missing out & should pick up this remastered album right away! X-Cops is an essential listening experience! This is the first time the album has ever been reissued and the first time ever released on vinyl (blood red splatter on clear vinyl). It comes with a full color 12x12 insert with lyrics.• The original lineup featuring Lt. Louie Scrapinetti (Mike Derks), Cadet Billy Club (Mike Dunn), Patrolman Cobb Knobbler (Dave Brockie), Sgt. Al Depantsia (Pete Lee), Sherriff Tubb Tucker (Casey Orr), Mountain Bike Officer Biff Buff (Brad Roberts), Sgt. Zypygski (Bob Gorman), and Detective Philip McRevis (Dave Musel)• Remastered by Rob Colwell of Bombworks Sound for maximum audio assault• Includes 12x18 poster• Includes 12x12 full color lyrics / pics insert• Blood-Red Splatter Vinyl• Includes cover of Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” with modified lyrics• Crossover metal for fans of MOD, SOD, The Exploited, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies with a ‘90s twist and more!
