Animal Collective celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark sixth studio album. Feels 20th Anniversary is a reissue of the original album with a bonus disc featuring nine B-sides and previously unreleased demos and is available on 3xLP and 2xCD. Feels fell in the middle of Animal Collective’s extraordinary ascent in the early 2000s from indie experimentalists to one of contemporary music’s most original and influential artists; it followed the band’s 2004 breakthrough album Sung Tongs and preceded the records that would propel them to mainstream success, 2007’s Strawberry Jam and 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavilion.

'Some Like It Hot' is a 1959 film starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon about a group of rogue musicians on the adventure path. It is funny, sexy, rambunctious and evergreen – a showcase of a triple-threat cast at full-throttle. 'Some Like It Hot' is also the new album by London three-piece bar italia. Certain parallels are perhaps not accidental. It pulses with romance, intrigue, self-discovery and rapture over lustful rockers, spellbinding folk pop, punch-drunk ballads and undefinable moments that sneak up on you like a burst of 5pm sunshine. The record is the culmination of the joint inner world of Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton – three singer-songwriters who have transcended their underground roots to embrace a bold, widescreen horizon. The synergy of this three-way blunt rotation is embedded in the trio’s DNA. Cristante brings a studied actors’ sensibility to vocals ranging from honeyed (‘Marble Arch’) to hell-bent and possessed (‘rooster’). Fehmi ranges from airy, brooding baritone (‘Lioness’) to mic-chewing megaphone histrionics (‘omni shambles’). Fenton, a wispy tenor, can veer between mystical melodicism and soaring blue-eyed soul within the same 8 bars (‘Plastered’). The cultivation of their sound was chiseled via a relentless writing and touring schedule. With over 160 shows worldwide across 2023-2024, they dispelled any mystique by becoming an exhibitionist and muscular five-piece that’s equally comfortable at festival mosh-pit incitement and moments of pin-drop intimacy. bar italia have married their serious and heartfelt subject matter with a joy in showmanship. These are songs that twist their quirks into huge choruses, playing with self-identity, emotion and performance until the lines blur. That Hollywood classic from which the album takes its name ends with the immortal line: “Well, nobody’s perfect.” This, however, comes pretty close.

Across eleven cinematic tracks — each a melodic treasure and short film — Dienel probes: What does freedom look like when rooted in presence, not escape? “Joy, especially queer joy, is revolutionary,” they muse. “Even in the face of everything else, I wanted to show that happiness is still possible — and necessary.” The record was brought to life with an impressive ensemble of collaborators: producer Adam Schatz (Japanese Breakfast, Neko Case), bassist Spencer Zahn, guitarists Carly Bond (Meernaa) and meg duffy (Hand Habits), drummer Max Jaffe, mixing engineer Jake Aron (Solange, Snail Mail), and mastering engineer Heba Kadry (Björk, Sade). Breaking from their usual DIY approach, Dienel embraced the power of the collective — an experiment in trust, connection, and openness. Tonally influenced by My Own Private Idaho and widescreen pop, such as Born in the U.S.A., My Heart Is An Outlaw is a warm-hearted exploration. Can we love fully without being domesticated? Can we resist cultural scripts by choosing presence and community over self-erasure? As they put it, “The heart has a mind of its own…It’s the thing holding you back that you have to set free on your own time, in your own way.” From the early days of White Hinterland to the lush orchestral pop of her solo work, Dienel has consistently bent and challenged the boundaries of independent music. My Heart Is An Outlaw continues that legacy — an unapologetic, joyous declaration of queer love and creative agency.

Militarie Gun's God Save The Gun starts with a confession: "I've been slipping up" frontman Ian Shelton roars. This isn't just a sonically daring swing of a rock album, it's a very human document of being at your worst when you should be on top - an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief. "I'm well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album," Shelton says. "But I'm fine with it, if not provoking it." All is love and pain in the mouse parade' is the band's long-awaited fourth album, releasing on October 17, 2025. It is a collection of stories of how love and pain are woven together. Feelings that might seem at odds with each other, but it exists simultaneously and need each other. The album was written, recorded and produced in the band's home studio in Iceland, with the help of their childhood friend, engineer Bjarni Þór Jensson.

Indie-folk / ambient artist Skullcrusher will be releasing her sophomore album 'And Your Song is Like a Circle' via Dirty Hit on 17 October. Recorded piecemeal over a period of years following the release of her 2022 debut, Quiet the Room, And Your Song Is Like a Circle does not capture experience - it gestures toward the imprint of an experience that is uncapturable. The Mountain Goats is the long-running project of the prolific John Darnielle. After building a cult following throughout the ’90s with a stream of boombox-recorded releases Darnielle signed to 4AD in 2002. It marked a major shift: for the first time, he embraced the studio as a creative tool. Between 2002 and 2009, 4AD released six Mountain Goats albums, the band is still active today and are on their 22nd release. It's a mark of Darnielle’s extraordinary fertility that, of the 800-plus songs he has recorded, only a handful directly concern his own life experience; The Sunset Tree’s 13 tracks, written after Darnielle’s stepfather passed away in December 2003, are the bulk of this small subsection. It’s a collection of songs about the house that Darnielle grew up in and the people who lived there — an ensemble cast which includes Darnielle himself, an ex-girlfriend, his mother, stepfather, and sister; old friends and old enemies. "I've put off writing about this stuff for years," he said at the time of its release, "because I’m a little squeamish about milking my own trauma for art, and getting good songs rather than cry-fests from these experiences is a really excruciating process. And also because my stepfather was still alive." Experienced as a whole rather than as a series of terrifying, frozen moments, The Sunset Tree is a redemptive rather than a remorseless record.
