Blossoms Gary

  • Blossoms
  • Alternative
Produced by J Lloyd (Jungle 12M MLs) and James Skelly, What Can I Say After I'm Sorry? ushers in the start of the band's 5th album campaign. The album titled Gary is named after a 8 foot fibre glass gorilla was stolen from a Lanarkshire Garden Centre in early 2023, and since then there has been a campaign to locate him, his rear end was recently found, but his frontage is still missing! Cameo from Everton Football Manager Sean Dyche…The band's 5th album comes after four top 5 albums in the UK. Blossoms’ 2016 debut topped the album charts for two consecutive weeks and went on to earn the band Brit Award and Mercury Prize nominations, while 2018’s Cool Like You charted at Number 4 in the UK album chart, spawning the anthemic singles I Can’t Stand It, There’s A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) and How Long Will This Last? Their third studio album, 2020’s Foolish Loving Spaces was the band’s second UK Number 1 album and following the release of In Isolation/Live From The Plaza Theatre, Stockport in 2020.

Bright Eyes Five Dice, All Threes

  • Dead Oceans
  • Alternative, Folk, Indie
Five Dice, All Threes is a record of uncommon intensity and tenderness, communal exorcism and personal excavation. These are, of course, qualitiesthat fans have come to expect from Bright Eyes, nearly three decades intotheir career. The tight-knit band of Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and NateWalcott tends to operate in distinct sweeping movements: each unique in it'ssound and story but unified by a sense of ambition and ever-growingemotional stakes. Even with this rich history behind them, these new songsexude a visceral thrill like nothing they have attempted before. Oberst hasalways sung in a voice that conveys a sense of life-or-death gravity. At timesthroughout Five Dice, All Threes, you may feel worried for him; other times, hemay seem like the only one with the clarity to get us out of this mess.On the self-produced album, Bright Eyes embrace the elusive quality thathas made them so enduring and influential across generations and genres, bringing their homespun sound from an Omaha bedroom to devotedaudiences around the world. In Oberst's songwriting lies a promise that ourloneliest thoughts and feelings can take on grander shapes when passedbetween friends, blasted through speakers, or shouted among crowds. Thistime around, the band invites such like-minded voices onto the record withthem, with notable guest appearances from Cat Power ("All Threes"), TheNational's Matt Berninger ("The Time I Have Left"), and Alex Levine, thefrontman of the New York punk band The So So Glos, who co-wrote severalsongs and shares a climactic verse in the surging "Rainbow Overpass."When they hit the studio with Oberst's longtime bandmates-the multiinstrumentalist and producer Mike Mogis, the keyboardist and arranger NateWalcott-they opted for a fast-paced approach that drew inspiration fromformative influences like The Replacements and Frank Black. They soughttextures that burst from the mix like gnarly splashes of paint on a blankcanvas; they opted for first takes and spontaneous decisions. Five Dice, AllThrees thrashes and squirms and resists classification. In the brilliant expanseof "El Capitan," they blend a galloping rhythm you might find in a Johnny Cashstandard with a swell of funereal horns, shouted vocals, and lyrics that readlike a sobering farewell between twin souls. "So they're burning you an effigy,"Oberst sings. "Well, that happens to me all the time!"For every striking turn in his lyrics, the band knows just how tocomplement him. On one level, Five Dice, All Threes may be the most funalbum in the Bright Eyes catalog, filled with singalong hooks and buzzingperformances. And yet, sitting alongside these adrenalized rockers that soundbeamed in directly from the garage, you will find contemplative, psychedelicmaterial like the heartbreaking "Tiny Suicides" and "All Threes," a song whosejazzy piano solo and free-associative lyrics feel totally unprecedented in theBright Eyes catalog. As per usual, the music comes loaded with subtext that invites deeplistening-the signature touch of a band who has always honored the album asit's own exalted work of art. In the game of threes, the titular move wouldindicate a perfect roll. Perfection, however, means something different in theworld of Bright Eyes, where our flaws are what grants us authority and findingmeaning is only possible if we bear witness to the dark, winding journey toget there. On Five Dice, All Threes, Bright Eyes embrace these beliefs withmusic that feels thrillingly alive, as if we were all in the room with them, shouting along and gaining the strength to move forward together. It doesn'tjust sound like classic Bright Eyes. It sounds like their future, too.

Jamie XX In Waves

  • Young
  • Electronic
The long-awaited new album by Jamie xx In Waves is the next chapter in the career of one of the most in demand producers of his generation. With In Waves, Jamie replicates the emotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night out– one where you return home in the cigarette ash dawn, the specifics of the last eight hours already blurring, but aware that these feelings will remain a crystalline memory. In Waves is a melancholy paradise of bliss, heartbreak, and introspection. The story of a journey where you merge into the divine pulse of shadows, light, and dancefloor rhythms. A strobelight epiphany about the illimitable possibilities and spiritual capacities of humanity. Nine years after his debut solo masterpiece, In Colour the London producer has not only eclipsed the heights of its predecessor, he’s somehow made all supernatural adjectives and analogies seem understated.

Joan as Police Woman Lemons, Limes and Orchids

  • Pias America
  • Alternative, Indie
Joan As Police Womans's 12th studio album, Lemons, Limes, and Orchids is a crowning showcase of her voice in all it's metamorphic splendour. "I was ready to make an album that truly featured my voice. The basics were recorded like they used to be- with me singing live along with the band. My good friend told me this is the sexiest album I've ever made. Honestly, I think she's right." The record is a nocturne about love and loss - what else is there? - and a reckoning with our collective disorientation, part hymn to holding on and part benediction of letting go. Joan has toured the globe, performing in dive bars and symphony halls, at independent music festivals and on the BBC, and has collaborated with a kaleidoscope of luminaries, including Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Tony Allen, Damon Albarn, John Cale, Laurie Anderson, Sufjan Stevens, Anohni, Beck, Meshell Ndegeocello, Toshi Reagon, David Byrne, and Daniel Johnston. She has participated in three Africa Express trips and teaches at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.

Katy J Pearson Someday, Now

  • Heavenly
  • Alternative
"May the wind be always at your back" chants Katy J Pearson in the opening seconds of her third solo record. Indicative of a shift in heart and sound, it fires the starting pistol for an album on which Pearson is exercising her own autonomy in life, in love, and in the recording studio. Following 2020's Return and 2022's Sound of the Morning, on Someday, Now Pearson's signature acoustic-led, sweetly-voiced singer-songwriter fare is transmuted through the desk of electronic producer Nathan Jenkins, aka Bullion (Carly Rae Jepsen, Ben Howard, Nilüfer Yanya). It showcases her natural knack for a hook, presenting ten glistening tracks which are pop by nature, rather than design or demand. "I've found my way back to myself", she summarizes. Where her previous records were made with a slower, more piecemeal approach, Someday, Now was rigorously written and rehearsed and then laid down over a couple weeks at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire. The band is composed of Heavenly label-mates Huw Evans and Davey Newington, along with fellow Broadside Hacks collaborator Joel Burton.

Neon Trees Sink Your Teeth

  • Round Hill Records (Frontline)
  • Altenative
.Since releasing their debut album, Habits, in 2010, Neon Trees have cemented themselves as a dynamic, engaging band who has consistently put in the work for over a decade. Written over the course of three years, Sink Your Teeth offers an opportunity for longtime fans to return and for new fans to discover the Provo, Utah band for the first time—proverbially sinking their teeth into the music. It also evokes a sense of bite and rawness in the music and lyrics that is compellingly relatable. For Tyler, the songs reflect a state of mind felt by many during the pandemic, but it’s not necessarily specific to the past few years. Like all of Neon Trees’ work, the album reveals a balance between the dark and the light.

Nightwish Yesterwynde

  • Nuclear Blast
  • Rock, Symphonic Metal, Folk Metal
Once there was a dream. And once upon a time - many, many moons ago - there was an enchanting summery twilight - a night full of wishes - on the rocky shores of a North Karelian island. There and then, under the luminous sky and by the crackling campfire, the magic was refined: beautiful acoustic melodies and serene chords began to shine with shooting stars. No difficulty has been able to stop them ever since as they have wandered the path of the elves, gazed at the stars, recited the poems of dead boys, slayed dreamers and wandered the meadows of heaven - just to name a few twists and turns along the fascinating journey. They were certainly there - and they are still here. They are the Finnish / Dutch / British troupe NIGHTWISH - one of the most fascinating rock bands of the last decades, whose enigmatic paths have proceeded from acoustic passages to symphonic heavy metal and from catchy folk to progressive majesty. If there is one trait the band has year after year, it might be this: expect something familiar but also expect the unexpected. NIGHTWISH has indeed broken all kinds of boundaries - never deliberately, but perfectly naturally. Now guess what? NIGHTWISH's new studio album "Yesterwynde" - the band's tenth overall - is no exception to the rule. There's a fascinating, but inexplicable feeling that NIGHTWISH has once again been able to find unprecedented nuances, spices and perspectives in their new works - exactly: after a career of nine classic albums. "Yesterwynde" is an experience that takes time to digest. The gravid ingredients of the songs are easily recognizable, but beneath the surface lies a large number of intriguing details and features. The lyrics of "Yesterwynde" deal with large-sized universal themes: memories, mortality, humanism, time and much more. The new album is the conclusion of the trilogy - textually it follows in the footsteps of it's predecessors "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" and "Human. : II: Nature" while at the same time, "Yesterwynde" is the band's most lyrically driven album. And what does the term 'yesterwynde' mean? It describes a feeling that cannot be found in any human language. That's why Nightwish had to invent a whole new word. Formed in 1996 and working with Nuclear Blast since the release of their highly lauded 2004 album "Once", NIGHTWISH have gained international fame and success selling more than ten million records and receiving more than 60 gold and platinum awards, with seven No #1 albums and thirteen No #1 singles to date. In October 2018, NIGHTWISH was inducted into the Tähtikatu - Walk of Fame Finland, becoming the honorary gallery's eleventh member. 2020 saw the release of the band's last studio record, "Human. : II: Nature". that crowned the band's discography with another No #1 success in Finland and Germany as well several other impressive chart entries worldwide.

Khan,Nusrat Fateh Ali & Party Chain Of Light

  • Real World
  • World
At turns heavy and hulkingly powerful, yet agile and pointedly precise, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's vocal not only embodies the tradition of the Sufi qawwali but it is the emotive essence of singing itself. Chain of Light is an album of previously unheard recordings of the singer and his qawwal party made at Real World Studios in 1990, whilst he was at the height of his vocal capabilities. Carefully restored from the original analogue tapes, this 'lost album' of traditional qawwals includes a pristine recording of the much-loved classic "Ya Allah Ya Rehman", as well the only known performance of "Ya Gaus Ya Meeran". Khan's legacy has enraptured millions across the globe with his magnificent and haunting voice. In his lifetime he collaborated with many Western musicians, including Peter Gabriel, Eddie Vedder and Michael Brook. His vocals appeared on soundtracks to films directed by Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Shekhar Kapur and Tim Robbins.

Sunset Rubdown Always Happy to Explode

  • Pronounced Kroog
  • Rock, Piano
Sunset Rubdown are set to release their fourth studio album-the first in fifteen years!-Always Happy To Explode. Twenty years ago Spencer Krug began using the name Sunset Rubdown for his solo bedroom recordings, experiments too low-fi and odd for what was then a blossoming Wolf Parade, but by 2005 Sunset Rubdown had evolved into a full band, with Michael Doerksen, Jordan Robson-Cramer, and Camilla Wynne joining Krug on stage and in the studio. The band recorded their third critically-acclaimed album, Dragon Slayer, in Chicago in 2008, then went on to play their last show in Tokyo in 2009, with the implicit knowledge it was their last. They broke up quietly, their certitude that they'd never reunite growing as the years rolled on. Then one night more than a dozen years after their final show Krug had a dream (he really did) that the band reunited, and the first thing he did upon awakening was email the band to see if the dream might be made real. The answer was a resounding yes, and soon enough Sunset Rubdown was onstage again. The first show in fourteen years was in Montreal, where they had formed so long ago. The tour was a success, most crucially in terms of having fun, the main condition of their continued pursuits. This fun was thanks in no small part to their blithesome new member, bassist Nicholas Merz. And thus they decided to make a new album together. The record is composed of nine songs cherry-picked from demos that Krug has been posting to his Patreon page over recent years, with the songs in many cases being pared down from their previous incarnations, yet no less lush. Being a band is no easy feat, perhaps especially as members age and spread across the continent, but it certainly is a privilege. With Always Happy to Explode, Sunset Rubdown have made something that captures their gratitude and the energy of their joyous (and sometimes difficult) reunion.

Tasha All This and So Much More

  • Bayonet Records
  • Folk, Indie
In All This and So Much More Tasha is an artist flung open. For Tasha, the last few years have been propulsive, dynamic, bursting at the seams. They've included painful encounters with grief; a sudden break up; new flirtation; new hair; the glitter of world travel and not least, a role in Tony-nominated Broadway musical Illinoise which adapts Sufjan Steven's Illinois for the stage. If Tell Me What You Miss The Most was an introspective meditation on love with a few moments of glancing toward what's next, All this and So Much More is Tasha turned outward, flourishing, telling us what it's like to take life by the chin and look it in the eye.All This and So Much More is a full-throated ode to all of the ups and downs of becoming. This is an album crafted with a big, ambitious sound (in part, thanks to the production of Gregory Uhlmann)-cinematic droning, orchestral woodwinds, dazzling arrays of jangling guitar, all lining up to capture a sweeping moment in Tasha's life. In All This and So Much More, Tasha asks us to consider abundance in it's truest form. Our lives, a deluge of possible experience if only we will surrender to it, all the way from the citric ache of heartbreak to the chest bloom of new adventure.

Tim Reaper & Kloke In Full Effect

  • Hyperdub Records
  • Drum&bass, Electronic, Jungle
Time moves in spirals. It took 20 years for Hyperdub to release a jungle album, finally converging with the most important sound of its prehistory. South East London's Tim Reaper, and Kloke from Victoria, Australia are two big guns from the new wave of junglists. On Reaper’s relentlessly hyperactive label Future Retro, a torrent of releases have helped provide the ammunition to rejuvenate that most precious of pirate radio and sound system styles, Jungle from the period 1993-95, that abstracted elements from dub reggae through to techno, riveted onto a finely chopped and accelerated breakbeat undercarriage. ‘In Full Effect’ is the intention and the title. It's energetic, exciting and extremely fun. Its 8 tracks provide a window onto some of the duo’s recent collaborations that precision-tool and mix up the best ideas from the period for a new generation of ravers. For those there the first time around, this album is flush with moments of deja vu.
