Recorded before he began is his blues journey, Harlem is a portrait of a restless artist discovering Americana sounds and Black American stories. The 10-song cycle is filled with harmonica, banjo, lap steel and guest appearances form The Jayhawks’ Marc Olson and Crazy Horse’s Frank “Poncho” Sampedro (on a scorching version of Neil Young’s “Southern Man” replete with a chain hang sample).
