Original goths from Leeds on the Sisters of Mercy's label, this is their only 1980's album. Limited edition in violet vinyl. Zillion $ bill insert
THE MARCH VIOLETS came out of Leeds in the early 80's, label-mates of Sisters of Mercy. Releasing six singles, they were a constant presence in the UK indie charts, hitting the top two with Snake Dance and Deep, and no. 1 with Walk into The Sun. They didn't get around to recording an album - their only 1980's LPs, Natural History in the UK and Electric Shades in the USA, were compilations. They were invited to record six BBC Sessions, three of them for John Peel. Eventually they signed to a major label and were groomed for a USA breakthrough, performing in the 1987 Some Kind of Wonderful movie. However, they didn't enjoy the compromises needed and split up.
After the BBC Sessions appeared on double-vinyl, they reformed, touring the UK, Europe & USA; festivals are scheduled for 2026. A new album Crocodile Promises was issued in the US on Metropolis in 2024; and more recordings are under way. Track-list: Religious As Hell, Children on Stun, Fodder, Steam, Grooving in Green, Radiant Boys, Strangehead*, Undertow*, Crow Baby, One Two I Love You, Snake Dance - extended. *Peel sessions (11 tracks)
