Sour Widows Crossing Over
Sour Widows already drew on equal shares of sharpness and tenderness, but the deliberately spare atmosphere of Crossing Over enhances both. Recorded remotely while studio plans were on indefinite hold, these songs dial back the volume that drove their earlier material, delivering themes of self-reflection and painful change with sharpened clarity. Tempos slow and the instrumentation softens, but anxiety and grief crackle in even the most delicate moments. Luminous vocal harmonies, complex guitar interplay, and understated drumming remain at the core of the band's sound, but these four softly lit songs reach deeper, all the more stirring in their subtlety.
