Ryuichi Sakamoto G.T. - Japanese

Release date:
June 5, 2026
Label:
Pre-order vinyl:

Originally released as a pre-release single from the 1986 album Futurista, "G.T." is reissued on color vinyl, bringing back a fast-paced, danceable electric funk track whose title abbreviates the Italian "Gran Turismo," or "grand journey." The song features vocals by Bernard Fowler of NYC Peech Boys, the group produced by legendary New York DJ Larry Levan, who is also known for his work as a backing vocalist for The Rolling Stones. On the B-side, "Parolibre" offers a striking contrast: a piano-centered piece reminiscent of Chopin's preludes, featuring vocals by Kaori Kano and guitar by Arto Lindsay, and one of Ryuichi Sakamoto's representative works, later performed in piano trio and piano solo arrangements. This reissue is remastered by Heba Kadry, who also worked on the 2024 analog reissue of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.
