2002’s HEATHEN was the first album Bowie and Tony Visconti had worked on together in twenty-two years. Recorded in a residential studio in upstate New York, it was the first Bowie album of the new millennium that represented a commercial resurgence and return to his Art Rock sound of the 1970’s. Guest guitarists on the album included Pete Townshend, Dave Grohl and longtime collaborator Carlos Alomar.
