In a note posted to the band’s social media to announce the album, frontman Chris Martin wrote: “This album is the entire contents of my heart and soul. It’s the way we as a band feel about everything. The way we try to stay positive in a world where there's so much negativity. I think if you've ever liked Coldplay, then your favourite Coldplay song is probably on this album. It's just us, really openly being ourselves and singing about the way we choose to look at the world from a place of love.” This will be the first album released on a new format called rPET LP - the world’s first 140g EcoRecord made from recycled PET. The album’s initial manufacturing run will be produced from more than 1.6 million PET bottles recovered from municipal waste. This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide a near 90% overall reduction in CO2 emissions / kg compared to the PVC used in traditional vinyl. The CD editions of Moon Music are be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from waste otherwise headed for landfill. This provides at least a 78% CO2/kg emission reduction, and avoids the manufacture of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic. In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run of Moon Music (both rPET LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition rRET LP products will be individually numbered.
