Buck & Evans Write A Better Day
Buck & Evans are proud to announce the release of their debut album 'Write A Better Day' on Departure Records, through Cargo Records. Write A Better Day is the perfect blend of youthful energy and traditionalism, the 4-piece rock and soul band's debut album features 11 finely crafted songs, including the singles 'Going Home', 'Slow Train' and 'Sunrise'. The Cardiff based band features vocalist Sally Ann Evans, along with effusive guitar player Chris Buck, drummer Bob Richards and bassist Dominic Hill. "We never set out to write an album, only write songs that we would want to listen to ourselves. That's the great thing about writing a debut album; you're not really aware that you are" explains Chris Buck, (voted the 15th Best Current Blues Guitarist in the world by Guitar Word). Self-produced, the foundations of the record were laid down at the renowned Rockfield Studios (Queen//Robert Plant) with the finishing touches added at Leeders Vale in Ebbw Vale. The album opens with Slow Train; a song play listed on both Planet Rock's A and B list, as well as voted Classic Rock Magazine's Track of the Week upon it's release. This mesmerizing debut is crammed with passion, grace and sensitivity, before the beautiful Going Home closes this sumptuous debut in the best possible way. Write A Better Day is an aural treat, with no calculated image or reliance on nostalgia: instead Buck & Evans have created an atmosphere based around strong material and succeed in immersing listeners into the ambiance they have made. There's something indefinable but very special about Write A Better Day that makes it irresistible. Ask Chris Buck whether he agrees with BBC Radio 2's Blues Show's assessment that Buck & Evans are "unquestionably major talents" and it'll inevitably draw a wry smile. After all, it was only a few years ago that he played his first gig with vocalist Sally Ann Evans - a "one off pairing" to accommodate an eleventh hour offer for a show in London. "We quickly threw together a 45 minute set to get us both through that one show" laughs Sally Ann. t was only 4 months after that innocuous first gig that Buck & Evans were Arizona-bound to play an open-air fundraiser before closing the event as Guns N' Roses legend Slash's backing band, prompting Slash to dub Chris "a fu*king awesome guitar player". With a brace of critically acclaimed EPs in their armory and industry veteran Alan Niven at the rock and soul quartet's helm, the meteoric progression of those first few months was to be a sign of things to come; playlisted on the countries' biggest radio stations, sold out shows and festival slots covering the length and breadth of the UK and fulsome reviews flooding in from both sides of the Atlantic, ("Fleetwood Mac-esque reverie - pulsating groove, swirling guitars and soaring harmonies" - Blabbermouth) Buck & Evans are set to take their exciting brand of rock and soul to the next level.
