Bokante What Heat
White Heat is the second full-length album from Bokanté, an all-star group led by GRAMMY Award winning band Snarky Puppy founder Michael League. Bokanté means 'exchange' in Guadeloupean Creole, the native language of lead vocalist Malika Tirolien. It's an appropriate name for a group of musicians from five countries (and four continents). As a lyricist, Tirolien tells stories that tackle issues head on, exploring the reality of this very important - and potentially dangerous - moment in time. What Heat also features conductor/arranger Jules Buckley and the Metropole Orkest, a group League first worked with on the Snarky Puppy album Sylva. The result is, as the band describes it, a ''weird combination of West African music, Delta blues, and Led Zeppelin (with lyrics in Creole and French).'' Bokanté will be on tour in the US later in the year, with appearances at Red Rocks and Umphrey's McGee.
