Ben Webster Soulville
Ben Webster had already enjoyed a long and fruitful career by the time these recordings were made. However, as Bob Blumenthal explains in the original liner notes, he still wasn't known for the sensual ballad feeling that became his trademark during the last two decades of his life. (He was still recognized for the hard blowing fast tenor sax style he played with both the Duke Ellington orchestra and with his own multiple small groups.) Even though his repertoire would forever be linked to that of the Duke, Webster presents versions of four standards on this album and, what's most nusual, two original compositions. BEN WEBSTER, tenor sax; OSCAR PETERSON, piano; HERB ELLIS, guitar; RAY BROWN, bass; STAN LEVEY, drums. 180-gram VIRGIN VINYL THE COMPLETE ALBUM LIMITED EDITION
