Xol Meissner Excess of Loss

Pre-order vinyl:

The debut LP from Swiss-born, NYC-based composer Mauro Hertig's Xol Meissner alias. A departure from his previous work, which is well known in classical circles, Hertig here has created a sinister, dreamlike world of sound with his unique hammered lap-steel technique and a velvety baritone croon that at times evokes Scott Walker. His lyrics are surreal and mythic, with horse hearts ripped out, kisses over a pharaoh's tomb, leering voyeurs, wine glasses full of tears. Built on the twin columns of Meissner's voice and the aforementioned hammered lap steel, Excess of Loss is an eerie, Lynchian vision and a unique Freudian trip. Excess of Loss was recorded at legendary Future-Past Studios in Upstate New York, with its founder Patrick Higgins (Zs, Aeaea) engineering and producing. Higgins has previously recorded and produced records for Nicolás Jaar, John Zorn, The National and Last Shadow Puppets at Future-Past.
