German atmospheric Black Metal
This was a tough one to write. And a tough one to finish. "Knochengesänge" was "our companion for the last 4 years. I will miss the security it gave to know that there is something you are connected to on such a deep level, always waiting for you to come back and work with it. I write "work with it", because that's what it felt like with those songs, channeling whatever lurked in the subconsciousness, letting the songs go wherever they wanted to go. Driven by what is still hidden by the shadows. I am not entirely sure I myself understand this record in its entirety. I just know that it had to be written. To find some sort of resolution. In its honesty and openness. After I exported the last songs today to hand them over to Markus Stock for the mixing, I feel empty. As if one of your closest friends just stood up and left. Something I had to encounter during the creation of this record already. I also feel relieved, as this album was starting to weigh on me. I have no idea yet where to go from this, and that is a scary feeling.
"Knochengesänge" deals with our inevitable end and what we leave behind. Will we leave a mark on this earth, or will we sleep with the worms and be forgotten the moment we pass on? What will be our contribution to leave this earth a better place than how we found it? I don't know what to do after dealing with these forms of finality. I was never the silver linings guy. I know not many people will read this. It doesn't matter. These words were written for my sanity, as was this record.
This record is dedicated to Tommy, who went too soon. And to my kids, Juna and Rian, the laughter I hope to leave behind.
