Ugly Autograph
We strive for having an overarching theme to our albums. Every song is a vignette, a snapshot of the ugliest qualities of human tendencies, habits, aspirations and dreams. On one hand these things can be virtues and true assets to individuals and society as a whole... but look a little deeper beneath the surface and all human qualities can be taken to an obsessive and often beastly timbre. From an artistic (and decidedly pessimistic) standpoint, it is much more interesting and realistic to write about the dark side of life. Ethically, we feel it is important to always keep our shortcomings in sight so as to never forget these are the low points humans are capable of reaching and to always be reminded that this is how life is every day for somebody. Until all are free of the inhumanities we sling at each other, no one is free and the tyranny lives on. These aren't moody dark lyrics to fit the moody dark music. The concepts found here are society as we see it. Society as the starving blood crazed fiend, too obscene for life, too elusive and cunning to be killed, pushed to the brink and resorting to eating itself. The running concept throughout Autograph is vanity and power achieved through humiliation. It is the murderous potential of fandom and the grooming of the meek and vulnerable for continuous and more brutal forms of torture. What is fame and renown without the ability to scorn and reproach those beneath you? Using fame and power as a meat grinder will only generate fame and power of a deadly and detestable nature.
