Steven Brown, TuxedoMoon co-founder and charismatic singer, songwriter, composer and musician returns with an enchanting new album, once again drawing from his favourite literary, cinematic and political sources, as well as from his life in Oaxaca, Mexico, to create a mysterious and inviting world. In This Very World alternates between songs featuring Brown's inimitable vocal presence and evocative, stripped-down instrumental pieces built around horns and piano, alluding to minimalist jazz and neoclassical forms. The album includes covers of a Shostakovich composition and David Bowie's "Panic in Detroit." It further establishes Steven Brown's solo stature as a powerful, poetic songwriter and iconic vocalist-somewhere, in broad strokes, between Tom Waits, John Cale, Paolo Conte, Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld and, instrumentally, Alabaster DePlume.
