Sinne Eeg and Jacob Christoffersen's Shikiori captures a moment of pure musical intimacy, recorded live in September 2024 in the historic 150-year-old house named SHIKIORI in rural Japan.
Inspired by a journey connecting Japan, South Africa, and Denmark, the project reflects a rich exchange of cultures and memories. In SHIKIORI's warm acoustics--where ancient wooden beams and rice fields shape the soundscape--Sinne's evocative vocals and Jacob's soulful piano create a dialogue that feels timeless and deeply personal.
Rather than a conventional singer-accompanist setup, Shikiori presents voice and piano as equal, intertwining "voices" resonating with the space and the audience. Their repertoire blends reimagined jazz standards like "Lush Life" and "But Not for Me" with original compositions such as "Soba" and "Don't Be So Blue," written from their experiences in Japan.
Songs like "Negirî" and "Hebi" draw directly from the duo's earlier visits to Japan, infusing the music with a sense of place, nostalgia, and renewal. The intimate performances were recorded before a small live audience, their energy captured beautifully in a setting where music seeped into the walls and hearts alike.
Produced by Jacob Christoffersen and Sinne Eeg, with post-production and mastering handled between Copenhagen and Stockholm, Shikiori stands as a testament to enduring artistic connection, cultural dialogue, and the creation of a "place where hearts return."
