Ry Cooder Chicken Skin Music
Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP pressing. Includes insert. Chicken Skin Music is the fifth studio album by Ry Cooder. This album is a fusion of all kinds of music, from bolero rhythms, slack key guitars to gospel tunes. The early landmark in his way to popularise roots music from both North as Central America is the equivalent of the Buena Vista Social Club, which was released 20 years later. Besides his standard backing band (Jim Keltner, Milt Holland, Chris Ethridge, and George Bohannon) he collaborated with two eminent Hawaiian musicians, Gabby Pahinui (steel guitar) and Atta Isaacs (slack-key guitar), and Norteño musician Flaco Jimenez. He's also looking way into the past by covering Leadbelly's 'Goodnight Irene' and 'Bourgeois Blues'. World music at it's best in the early days, by combining all his influences and working together with different musicians.
