punk/hardcore band from Philadelphia, PA

Miss Universe is the new EP from Positronix, a band from Philadelphia who straddle the medieval and the space age with their oblique brand of post-punk. Rallying from their 2024 full-length, which might have taken cues from both Siouxsie and DEVO, they've written five new songs that are dense, lightning-fast, and packed with angular guitar hooks enshrouded in eerie synths. The new collection also indulges some poppier inclinations, with fresh vocal harmonies a la Kim Deal on "Ascension Day." Still, they're leaning over the swirling dark pool from which they've siphoned their oeuvre, with rollicking axes and echoic keys, shouted lilting vocals dripping with satire. The lyrics take inspiration from the eponymous international beauty pageant that's been plagued by scandal, run by a revolving door of executives who keep resigning after doing terrible things. At once triumphant and disquieting, these songs pay tribute to the working class, beautiful people, and popular revolt.
