„Pizzacase“ box set featuring the three NON-FICTION albums -2024 remaster -featuring Alan Tecchio (Hades, Watchtower) and Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Patriarchs In Black) -the voice of Hades & Watchtower meets doom-infused US metal with a 70s groove During a European tour by HADES, it became clear that the band would be splitting up very soon. Guitarist Dan Lorenzo formed Non-Fiction with Dan Nastasi (MUCKY PUP, DOG EAT DOG), and the band went on to record an EP. However, the line-up was set to change once again, with HADES and WATCHTOWER singer Alan Tecchio and bassist Kevin Bolembach (later of SEVEN WITCHES, JACK FROST, among others) joining the band. In 1991, the debut album „Preface“ was released on Grand Slamm Records, and in Europe on Steamhammer/SPV. The shift towards doom metal must have surprised many HADES and WATCHTOWER fans at the time, whilst fans of that style, back then without the internet, remained unaware. It is astonishing that certain hallmarks of HADES can nevertheless be found in NON-FICTION’s music (see also HADES’s 1995 reunion album). The cover artwork, reminiscent of the glory days of the graphic design firm Hipgnosis, lends the album a perfect aura and hints at the groove of early LED ZEPPELIN. The second album, „In The Know“, is the perfect follow-up and is regarded by many fans as the band’s finest work. „It’s A Wonderful Lie“ demonstrated a willingness to experiment, and on some tracks the influence of the nineties and its musical trends is unmistakable. Both HADES and WATCHTOWER (featuring Alan Tecchio) are now active again – albeit sporadically – and quite a few fans are hoping that Non-Fiction will also make a reappearance. The musical successor, albeit a bit more modern, is currently Dan Lorenzo’s successful band PATRIARCHS IN BLACK, which he founded in 2021 together with TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer John Kelly.
