New record by finnish six-piece outfit, finest melodic doom/ death metal as CD & LP on Noble Demon!
The dark coasts of the Baltic Sea have always been a place of somber melancholy - and out of this darkness rises Marianas Rest. Founded in 2013 in the Finnish port city of Kotka, the six-piece band has become one of the most striking representatives of Nordic death-doom. Their sound is heavy, slow, and profound - shaped by doom, post-metal, and classic melodic death, always carried by a unique atmosphere between desolation and beauty.
With The Bereaved (to be released in January 2026), the band unveils their fifth studio album - and their first through the German label Noble Demon. It is a deeply personal work about death, loss, and the many faces of the end - a musical exploration of the question of who is truly blessed: the departed or those left behind.
Following the highly acclaimed predecessors Horror Vacui (2016), Ruins (2019), Fata Morgana (2021), and Auer (2023), The Bereaved continues the band's story with unwavering consistency. As before, Marianas Rest prove themselves masters of emotional depth - from Jaakko Mäntymaa's haunting growls and Aapo Koivisto's ghostly keyboard textures to Nico Mänttäri's expressive guitar work that resonates with both heart and mind.
Fans of Swallow the Sun, Paradise Lost, Ghost Brigade, or Sentenced will find much to cherish here. Marianas Rest combine despair and beauty into a sonic landscape that inevitably captivates the listener - sometimes slow and crushing, sometimes aggressive and cathartic, yet always profoundly Finnish.
