joan met the challenges of global isolation with the `wave era' that saw them release new singles of their trademark alt-pop bops, tinged with the sweetest hint of '90s r&b influences, released on the first thursday of each month for most of 2021. the singles culminated into 2 eps titled `hi' and `bye.' the themes contrasted, one focusing on the beginning joys of relationships, while the latter connected to the difficulties and struggles. now together as the `wave era' double ep.
