Pacific Northwest trio Eyes of Autumn began their musical journey as middle and high schoolers just west of Tacoma, Washington in 1998-learning in real time how to express themselves through tone, rhythm, and texture. After self-releasing ambitious EPs and touring relentlessly, they signed to 54°40' or Fight! And recorded their debut at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone in San Francisco. The band split in 2003, reuniting in 2007 with newfound musical patience and an unabashed love of T-Rex, My Morning Jacket, and Emmylou Harris. The Mother Ghost Sessions-recorded during the most creatively fertile period of the band's career-captured seven songs before the group disbanded again. Lost on outdated hard drives, the recordings were unearthed in 2023 and found to have aged remarkably well: free, open arrangements, Walkman-esque ambiance, and the childlike creative spirit that always marked Eyes of Autumn, now refined with patience and care. Drummer Peter Mansen later co-led Seattle indie outfit Deep Sea Diver with Jessica Dobson.
