faithless /ˈfeɪθləs/ adj.
1. Lacking religious faith; not believing in God or any religion.
2. Lacking trust, beliefs, or ideals; unable to believe in something or someone.
3. (fig.) Incredulous, disillusioned, devoid of hope or certainty.
Faithless is an album born from the absence of certainties and points of reference. The term faithless does not refer solely to the lack of religious faith, but to a broader and deeply contemporary condition: disbelief toward society and toward a present that seems to have lost any promise of meaning.
“God is absent. The world collapses. I am a world.”
The album unfolds as a dreamlike, inner journey, where the microcosm of processing grief reflects the macrocosm of an oppressive reality. In this space of solitude and disorientation, the individual risks succumbing, trapped between superstition and the inability to decipher the real. Only love emerges as a possible form of redemption and the rekindling of hope.
The journey culminates in the belly of the whale, the central symbol of the work: for Collodi, a place of reunion with the father/creator; for Orwell, a refuge for intellectuals from the violence of the world; for Melville, the absolute that humanity pursues but never fully attains. The whale thus becomes a space of suspension, waiting, and confrontation with darkness.
Only by emerging from the whale — through acceptance and awareness — does Faithless open up to the possibility of rebirth
